Egyptian hawawshi is a delicious ground beef recipe stuffed in crispy pita bread. This is perfect for parties as well as weekday dinners.
Hawawshi seasoning
It's not a hawawshi sandwich without the unique seasoning or spice mixture of paprika , black pepper,cumin , red chilis powder,
The meat mixture
3/4 kilogram chopping beef
2 tomato
2 green pepper
1 big onion
Celery
cilantro
3 bell pepper
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon beef spice
2 teaspoon salt
Lean ground beef combined with finely chopped vegetables. The hawawshi seasoning is added to this mixture and combined before cooking (kinda like how you would prepare meat fo meatballs , except in this case you do not form the meat into balls).
Pita dough:
5 1/2 cup flour
1 cup oil
2 cups warm water
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 tea spoon yeast powder
cup of yogurt
Notes
Note1: using parsley is optional, but it gives a nice flavor to your ground beef.
Note2: you can use any ground meat you like and you can make it vegetarian using ground mushrooms as well.
Serve with: Serve these delicious pockets with green salad or Tabouli . It also goes great with tzatziki hummus , garlic or tahini dip.
